Two Mountains

2009; rammed earth, aluminum cans, shredded tires; 12’H x 50’W x 18’D; Municipal Service Center; El Paso, Texas.  Commissioned by the El Paso Public Art Program.

With an increasing public awareness of environmental concerns, the current emphasis on recycling and the reduction of landfills, the intent for this artwork is to suggest our relationship with the environment.  Using aluminum cans from the city’s recycling program, shredded rubber from automotive tires and locally sourced earth, the discarded materials suggest an archaeology of our consumer culture.
