Ancient Waters

2013; glass mosaics; 2 wall surfaces, each 7’H x 11’W; 8 infill panels, each 7’H x 1.75’W; Central Corridor Green Line Light Rail, Robert Street Station; St. Paul, Minnesota. Commissioned by the Metropolitan Council.

The images were inspired by the geological history of the ancient Glacial River Warren (approx. course of the Minnesota River) and its tributary, the Mississippi River, flooding this valley area 12,000 years ago. It is thought that it created a waterfall larger than Niagara Falls near the station site. In the current context, adjacent to the Capitol, the images also allude to the sometimes fluid, but also static nature, of communication.
