Central Corridor 10th Street Station

“Ice Palaces”; 2013 completion; glass smalti and stone mosaics; 4 wall surfaces, each 7’H x 11’W; 4 infill panels, each 7’H x 1.75’W; Central Corridor Light Rail 10th Street Station; St. Paul, MN. Commissioned by the Metropolitan Council.
This piece is based on the history of an annual community event, the St. Paul Winter Carnival. The first three Ice Palaces for the Carnival were built in late 1880’s in the immediate vicinity of the station. Based on archival photographs, fragments of the grand Ice Palaces will be interpreted in mosaics.
